Principal's Welcome

What an exciting time for the Featherbrook College community to have a brand new school for all members of the community to enjoy. As a new school in Point Cook in 2017 it has been with excitement and future thinking that our journey has begun. Building a new school community is a privileged opportunity for me and college staff as we partner with families to ensure engaging and excellent learning programs for all children at our school. The new Featherbrook College has proven to be an exciting community hub which successfully maximises community engagement through the out-of-hours school facilities. The School is located next to with other community services including: Featherbrook Community Centre, Pre-school, Maternal and Health Care and Featherbrook sports oval.

Point Cook’s history is informed by its indigenous heritage, by the RAAF presence and by the wonderful richness of local families and those who have come from further afield, to call this beautiful part of Victoria, home. The beginning of our school in 2017 marked a point in time where together we began to build on the history of Point Cook. Our school has begun to build a highly respected reputation, known for actively promoting the importance of 4 key Educational Principles.

A contemporary education

The school offers a progressive approach to educating students from Prep – Year 9. The school leadership team and staff of professional educators purposefully provide optimal learning experiences for each and every student and as such, provide all children with learning that is personalised, contemporary, evidence-based and technologically rich. Our students enjoy and engage in a broad and differentiated curriculum promoting creativity, resilience and a growth mindset. The strengths, talents and learning styles of each student is harnessed and celebrated.

As a Public Private Partnership school in concert with Learning Communities Victoria (LCV), Featherbrook College is well positioned to draw on the most current and contemporary teaching and learning theories and practices. As a State Government school, access to the best available education resources, knowledge and expertise from across the education system support our teachers to provide the most exemplary learning programs for our students.

Facilities

The state of the art buildings consist of a range of learning and teaching neighbourhoods, a learning centre/library, stadium/gymnasium, community spaces, music space, Outside of School Hours Care provided through the YMCA and full sized sports oval. The Centre for Education and Research in Environmental Strategies (CERES) conduct community and environmental programs at Featherbrook College, including the ResourceSmart Program to support the school to become a 5 star sustainability school.

Community Facilities

Featherbrook College has been designed with the local community in mind and is a meeting place for local families and residents to enjoy community, arts, sports and recreation programs. The school offers many community facilities and services, including:

  1. An expanded gymnasium, built to Netball Victoria standards
  2. A large multi-purpose Community Hub for use by the school during school hours and for use by the YMCA after hours to deliver Out of School Hours Care and other community programs
  3. 2 outdoor hard courts
  4. Additional conference and interview rooms for local community use.

I extend a warm welcome to all of our school community families and future families to work together to create a most wonderful, reputable and inclusive learning community.
