Year 1 Visual Art

03.03.21

Currently, the year 1 students are learning about abstract self portraits. I spent some time in the art space today and enjoyed the amazing creations of the students inspired by artists Picasso and Sandra Silberzweig. Visual Arts teacher Nick McKinnis firstly worked with the students to help them identify the parts of the face when drawing a portrait. They then explored the use of different shapes and lines to create a face and filled it in blending oil pastels and adding patterns. Finally, to finish the artwork, the students covered the main black lines with glitter glue! Marvellous works of abstract art resulted and all while having lots of fun and exercising imagination.
