Chemistry
The Year 3/4 students visited the Featherbrook Lab today to experience a workshop which focused on density and how different substances interact with one another dependant on their chemical properties. Students explored this concept through the creation of their own lava lamps with reused plastic containers!
Students observed an acid-base reaction through the reaction of citric acid mixed with the base, bicarbonate, to form carbon dioxide bubbles. The bubbles trapped coloured water which then floated within vegetable oil. The Science Collaborative students Lauren and Aryan lead the workshop, supporting all students to understood the science through prompting and questioning. The Year 3/4 students also took the time to appreciate the science lab and all the scientific elements within it. Day 4 of Science Week activities was a huge success and a highlight for our budding scientists!
