Food technology - Healthy Versus Less Healthy

04.03.20

One of the joys I have as Principal of our wonderful Featherbrook College, is that as I move from learning space to learning space, I see the considerable range of programs we provide on a daily basis.

Year 7 students were treated to an opportunity to learn a little more about how to choose healthy food options in their food technology class this week. Teacher Kait Oliver provided the students with 2 recipes that whilst named the same (banana bread/muffins), the ingredients told a very different story. Instead of sugar, rice malt; instead of full fat milk, almond milk; instead of choc chips, oats; instead of vegetable oil, coconut oil. The students thoroughly enjoyed the both varieties recognising that moderation of any food is the key to good nutrition.
